American Economy Affecting Las Vegas Sands Macau Project

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

The Las Vegas Sands stock which was well over the 100 dollar mark this time last year is quivering around the 6 dollar mark in recent trading. The company as a whole has been hit hard by this uncertain economy and the recession that is so surely upon those in the US. But the US economy is definitely not the only one feeling the rippling effects of what is going on in Las Vegas along with other cities that LVS has properties in.

The Venetian, that is the high end hotel beside its newer sister hotel on the Las Vegas strip experienced some serious lay off last month and that was said to just be the beginning. This month there was news that just this week the LVS group was in another binding position where the economic situation forced them to lay off another 500 employees from the Venetian project in Macau. They reported that this unfortunately is unlikely to be the last of the lay offs and they are likely going to have to cut hours for employees as well.

Employees as well as the company are in desperate need of some breathing room and are hoping that this recession will not last a very long time with a quick bounce back into the times that we experienced over the last several years with the economy booming at its brightest.

The company reports that while they are cutting jobs and hours the plans to continue to build the new hotel are still somewhat in the works and they are not anywhere close to completely closing up shop. The Las Vegas Venetian and Palazzo hotel and casino make for two of the most luxurious hotels anywhere in the United States.

Encore Hotel and Casino Opens in Las Vegas

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Not fearing the economy and its overcast shadow on all things travel and tourism the newly designed and built 2.3 billion dollar hotel by Steve Wynn has opened its doors this week, with Monday being the first official day of operations.

With only suites throughout the entire building the prices will need to remain competitive during these trying times in order for Steve Wynn to have any remote chance of filling any or all the 2,034 suites that the new hotel and casino has to offer.

When asked, Steve Wynn says that he has a different approach to business than the rest of the competition in Las Vegas. He says that cutting jobs and hours for his employees would only be the last resort in his case and he much rather lower room rates and see more traffic coming through the casino and hotel rather than let his employees go.

The new hotel is a replica of the first Wynn tower with everything just a little better than the last. The hotel promises even better service, newer rooms and everything that is absolutely top of the line that the customers can ever imagine.

Las Vegas is hoping that the new Wynn tower will share some of its good fortune and bring new luck to the city that’s seen its share of bad cards recently. Latest numbers of visitors and tourism is the worst the city has seen in over ten years time.

Holiday Spirit in Las Vegas

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

Surprisingly for the world we live in, one man decided to give this Christmas without expecting anything in return. A Las Vegas man published an ad in the Las Vegas Review Journal that asked people if there was anything he can do to help for the holidays and this Christmas he spent his night doing exactly that.

The man who is himself currently unemployed and does not have a financial cushion to fall back on decided a while ago that it feels much nicer to give than receive. He and a group of people that he managed to round up spent the day and evening helping people that were in need.

One of their stops was to a home on a street that was covered in Christmas lights with one house lacking not only decorations but also electricity. The family inside the house consisted of a husband, wife, and four children. Their power was turned off because the man could not afford to pay the bills after he had lost his job and the family is using candles for light and the fireplace for warmth for the home. The Las Vegas man had brought food and presents for the entire family trying to bring some holiday cheer.

The man spent the rest of Christmas day answering several ads as well as helping others that he knew were in need. He says its better to help others instead of concentrating on all the wrong things that are going on around you. And if everyone could just give a little more any chance they get the world would be a better place.
